3rd International Biennale of Contemporary Art, Baku (Azerbaijan)

December 2007

“In the two channel video installation by the Spanish artist David Maroto, ‘PUZZLE’ one of the couple is reading a book. To one of them the book reminds a film which she saw sometimes ago, but she cannot remember the name of the film. This puzzle plays a role of the Lacanian object for David Maroto to help to find an answer in the second screen through the reading of Marcel Proust ‘In search of lost time’, the forgotten prototype in the first video.” (Excerpt from »Aluminium« oder die 3. Baku Biennale. Article by Zeigam Azizov, published in Springerin art magazine, issue 1/08. Wien (Austria) January 2008)

Two works were on display, PUZZLE and An Echo. They were projected alternatively on the walls of the cellar of an ancient Sha’s palace (in the picture above they are both shown at the same time especially for the photo montage).

Participant countries: Azerbaijan, Canada, France, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Korea, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, Uzbekistan.
