Docero

TENT. Centre for visual arts. Rotterdam

3rd / 27th March 2005

Docero was the first proposal to be shown in TENT. Docero is a made-up word, a mix of “twelve” and “zero” (in Spanish, “doce” and “cero”). It is an attempt to write with objects that comprises a selection of works from Second Circle, in which letters and numbers play a fundamental role. In my works I use numerical codes that recur constantly: 12, 11, 7, 6, 0… Also letters become significant. The use and repetition of certain numbers, letters, colors and materials create unexpected relations between the works. Both numbers and letters are treated in Docero as pictures, as objects. The physicality of writing unveils its hieroglyphic origins and its connections with unconscious contents. In Docero letters become objects that you can surround, and the space becomes the “page” in which spectator can read them.
